Aston Martin Vantage no. 97 wins on BILSTEIN in the LM GTE Pro class :: July 18th, 2017
Endurance racing for a full 24 hours is truly one of BILSTEIN’s specialties. Victory at the Nürburgring in 2016 has now been followed by a title in another round-the-clock classic: a win in the LM GTE Pro class at Le Mans in France. The winning car no. 97 was built by BILSTEIN’s partner Aston Martin Racing, with whom the suspension experts claimed the championship for GT vehicles in the WEC last year. Darren Turner, Jonathan Adam and Daniel Serra were the trio of drivers responsible for the triumph in Le Mans.
The outlook was hugely promising going into the race: No. 97 came second in free practice and took pole position in qualifying. During the actual race, Turner, Adam and Serra were always among the front-runners in their own class, but they didn’t lead the field all the way through. Sometimes they were passed by their stablemates in car no. 95, which was out in front around half-way through, and sometimes by competitors from different teams.
In the second half of the race, car no. 63 of Corvette Racing gained the most ground, and took a firm hold on the lead. In hour 21, a few other cars also managed to get between this C7.R and the Aston Martin Vantage no. 97. Only after more than 23 hours did the British car manage to claw its way back to the front and ensure a happy ending to a real thriller for Aston Martin Racing. BILSTEIN congratulates its partner on this landmark victory, and expresses its thanks once again for many years of outstanding collaboration.
